Topic: Upper Woods Pond, 02/09/08, Saturday Posted: 08/10/Feb at 2:45pm |

We were up at Upper Wood's Pond 7am-4pm on 8"-10" of ice. Boring day with the tip-ups and jigging. All 4 stocked Trout(Rainbows) were caught close to shore. Had the whole lake to ourselves till around 2pm, 2 other fishermen came on. It was like fishing a private lake. Fished various methods but could not get any action. Snowed on and off after 10am coating us and equipment, putting about 2" on the lake. Watch the creek coming in to the right of the launch, the ice looked unsafe with no snow, so give it a wide birth when assessing the lake. The road coming in was ice and snow covered, but manageable I feel even if you have a 2-wheel drive. George

PA Fish & Boat Commission list the primary fish as Brook and Rainbow Trout, but I say it must have a little of all species. I don't jig a lot or know all the specifics about using my flasher, but I did see a dept of 50 ft with no markings of fish for the time I put into it. I'll personally try a different lake next trip as long as the ice stays.

Moose, I do have some info for you on Promised Land. The upper lake is pretty good for panfish. Nice perch, bluegills, and some bass. There are special regs for panfish on that one be sure to check your book. I'm pretty sure it's only 20 combined species with an 8in.
minimum on perch. It's a big lake with plenty of weeds, wood and few deeper spots. Never fished the lower lake but, it's stocked with trout. I'd hit the upper lake and start there. If you hit the PA State Parks web site you can pick up some more info there too. Good Luck!
